If you know me, you know I love to encourage talented young artists! This is especially true when they are also socially aware and politically active. Such is the Our Lives Matter Fashion event I attended the latter part of last year.

Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an international activist movement, originating in the African American community, that campaigns against violence toward black people. BLM regularly organizes protests around the deaths of black people in killings by law enforcement officers, and broader issues of racial profiling, police brutality, and racial inequality in the United States criminal justice system. The interesting switch to “Our Lives Matter” for this event includes all of us as individuals and drives home the point that out lives are important and do matter!

The Event:

The event is actually a multi-day event produced by Dario Mohr ( and David Acala ( The events earlier in the week featured industry networking and seminars on current events including an informative discussion on Ethical Fashion and Technology.
Visual and fashion artist were presented.

The closing night of the event was a fashion show was a celebration of independent fashion featuring designs from Daturday, Daft Minerva, Buddhahood Clothing and many, many more! Speakers for the ‘Our Lives Matter’ movement educated the audience by sharing some of their personal experiences is this area. In addition, the works on local photographers, talented performers, visual artists, vendors, and models were a feast for the eyes.

The event was held in Harlem Library in NY, NY. Take a look at some of the sights from the talented participants! With talent like this on display there is no doubt why all of our lives matter!
